In January 2012, RIDOT and the Rhode Island Airport Corporation (RIAC) activated the Rhode Island Transportation Information Center. This video wall, located in the west end of the Interlink near the rental car counters and the doorway to the parking garage and train station, features a large video showing live traffic camera images along highways from the Airport to the Providence metropolitan area. The Center also provides train and bus information and other important travel information.

The focal point of the Center is a large map that illustrates traffic conditions with color-coding superimposed on the highways showing normal, slow or stopped traffic. Information such as crashes, roadwork and other possible hindrances to travel also are shown on this map.

The Center also provides commuter rail schedule information from the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and bus schedule information from the R.I. Public Transit Authority.

A quick glance at the Center will help travelers make decisions on which form of transportation they will use when leaving the airport. Adverse weather conditions or congested highways may prompt some to consider using train or bus service to reach their destinations, while others may find it more convenient to travel by automobile.

RIDOT also installed an electronic kiosk for finding additional traveler information. The kiosk allows users to print directions their destinations, check on rental car rates, research local attractions, find a restaurant or look for a nearby hotel room.

This Center was funded by the Federal Highway Administration.
