Local Roads in Rhode Island on the Federal Aid System

Picture of flood damaged pavementRIDOT coordinates with cities and towns to help repair damage to local roads caused by flooding, hurricanes or other natural disasters. Part of that process is to identify roads that are on the Federal Aid System, which may be eligible for funding for repairs through the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Local roads that are not on the Federal Aid System may be eligible for repair funding through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

RIDOT has been working with local communities to make improvements to local roads through the RI-LEAP program. This effort, launched in 2009, provided $20 million in funding for repair of local roads.

The following maps provide a community-by-community look at local roads that are on the Federal Aid System. Municipalities seeking more detailed information may also wish to view the Highway Functional Classification website of the Rhode Island Statewide Planning Program.
