RIDOT is working on a large project to replace the Pawtucket River Bridge, two spans carrying I-95 North and South near the George Street and School Street exits. In order to build this bridge as quickly as possible while maintaining a safe work environment for the contractor, motorists and pedestrians, the Department has been and will continue to temporarialy close city streets.

Each closure will be announced well in advance with detour maps and turn-by-turn directions provided.

Partly due to the number of one-way streets in the area, the detour routes require several turns to get around closed areas. New closures or the reopening of closed structures may result in changes to previously established detours. RIDOT strongly encourages motorists to become familiar with the detour routes before driving them. Follow the links below to review current closures and detour routes:

Main Street I-95 South Ramp Closure

RIDOT closed the Main Street on-ramp to I-95 South on June 26, 2012. This closure affects those attending a Pawtucket Red Sox game trying to head home using I-95 South. The closure will be in place until mid-2013. Signed detours will be established. See below for maps and turn-by-turn directions.

Pleasant Street Closure
