The Rhode Island Adopt-A-Highway Program is a beautification program that is managed by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division.
It is a means for private citizens, organizations, non-profit groups, businesses and/or individuals to help their community by cleaning a 2-mile segment of a secondary roadway at least 4 times per year. This is an inexpensive way for citizens to support our state's anti-litter efforts and gain tremendous satisfaction in making a contribution to their community and our state.
An Adopt-A-Highway sign can be ordered to give recognition and positive publicity to the adopting organization. These signs are fabricated and installed by our Traffic Highway Section.
All supplies needed for the clean-ups are distributed to the groups located throughout the state on secondary roads through our Maintenance Facilities.
