Rhode Island travel information is now available through your telephone (in state) by dialing 511, or online by clicking here. The service is available outside Rhode Island by dialing 1-888-401-4511.
Listen to RIDOT's Radio Traffic Reports on your computer before you leave work! RIDOT has six permanent low frequency radio transmitters, as well as a portable transmitter, to provide traffic updates. Tune in to 1630 AM on your route.
Travel time information is now available along the full length of I-95 and I-195 in Rhode Island. As of January 8, 2013, RIDOT expanded the program to Route 146, a limited access highway from northern Rhode Island to I-95 South in Providence. RIDOT is working to expand this valuable tool for motorists to other highways.
Both overhead signs and portable message boards will be used to display this information to motorists. Real-time travel time information is also available at RIDOT's Transportation Management Center website.
The Department is utilizing existing technology and equipment originally installed to measure traffic volumes. The equipment measures the speed of traffic in real time as vehicles travel from one sensor to another, and determines an approximate travel time for each segment of road along the route.
